My Hobbies

Well, lately I've really enjoyed doing nothing sitting around, reading spiritual books related to Advaita, deep religion, nonduality. My mom sent me a book called Silence of the Heart by Robert Adams. He was an American devotee of Ramana Maharshi with an interesting story that Realized the Self. Through words, I can't share how fascinating these people are atleast to me. Papaji's biography Nothing Ever Happened, another Realized Maharshi devotee. It is the most extraordinary story I've ever read and non-fiction. Everything from planning with friends to join the army to coup against the British, to touring India asking swamis if they can show him God? To his legendary encounters with Maharshi, and Maharshi telling him to rescue his family in the Punjab which is now Pakistan from essentially ethnic cleansing in 1947 between Hindus and Muslims.

Then Maharshi's voice told him to get on the Muslim train car which he did despite earrings and an Om tattoo which could have given him away, and shouted "kill the hindus, kill the hindus". After he rescued his family he was offered by a stranger to be a high-up in a mining company and spent alot of time in the forest. On an errand, this doctor's family whose guru had not shown up made Papaji their guru. Since he was in the Realized egoless state he mused to himself that he could neither reject or accept this offer. (I found it fascinating how they could tell, and the dispassionate way Papaji told this story as if it was an ordinary occurance)

But that was how his career as a famous spiritual teacher started. The story was just entirely like this fantastical. And if you watch Papaji (plenty of Youtube clips, and Google video clips), his constant cracking up into innocent laughter is infectious. I was showing my mom a full satsang of Papaji, having her watch it on the other end of the phone, and as Papaji talked through the phone I was so blown away by what an effective spiritual teacher he was. He tells long drawn out stories usually infused with a kind of dry, sarcastic humor, and by the end of it sometimes it just clicks to me how to be psychologically free. That is to me why I'm so excited by the concept of the Jnani. Because these spiritual teachers in a way that transcends time can bring it home the dive into the deepest levels of consciousness. And Papaji, Maharshi, I find them badass because they are the real deal. They aren't snake oil. They don't buy into anything or play into any image, or have any dogma.

But what are my other hobbies. I like to sit and do nothing and inquire and stay in peace and bliss. Those attachments arise, and I look deeply into myself. I love surfing Google Video because I don't have flash player and watching anything that strikes my fancy. I watch spiritual clips, clips of Barack Obama. Just a second ago, clips of Condoleeza Rice and I was impressed by her intelligence, clarity. Just anything, I don't care. I listen to classical music. (sometimes watch Citizen Fish the political punk band) If a friend invites me to something I might go, or I might say I'll probably go, and not. Because I enjoy being alone so much. I didn't when I was younger. I craved company. I sometimes call my mom to share something that is interesting to me.

A few weeks ago, my hobby was introducing 3-d images into Google Earth at different size scales. If you are interested you can page down, because they look pretty awesome.

Another book that my mom sent me was Mystics, Masters, Saints and Sages. Though I haven't read much what interested me was the sages included, which did infact include Ramana Maharshi, Robert Adams, Yogananda, and the second one I looked at besides Maharshi was Catherine of Siena. The state that this priest biographer from centuries ago described her as having was errily like Maharshi. Sometimes she was so deep in union with the divine, or God that people could not physically rouse her from her state. And it sounded identical to Maharshi. They said wisdom poured from her lips. From my experiences sainthood is real, enlightenment is real.

This was relaly brought home to me in my twenty second year. I don't know what caused it, smoking salvia with some hippyish folks, the idiots guide to yoga, all my intense autistic related insecurities, but my 'mind' opened so deeply and I saw so many other aspects of reality supernatural but truly real. I now take for granted. And which brings me to another hobby. I like to argue about things. Like I go occassionally to forums. I went to the Cult Education Forum recently and argued for no good reason with people who claimed Byron Katie was a manipulative cult leader. Only because I enjoyed the intellectual stimulation and saw another point of view.

I went to Richarddawkins.net and argued about nondual spirituality. Purly for an intellectual gratification, no other reason. Or to amuse myself by being outside what they expect. I don't care what others think, I'm not out to convert anybody. I don't even know what's true, and what I think is true is mainly so I can unlearn the little I do still hold onto. (lol) I think this makes arguing even funner and more stimulating. So it is kind of like picking a fight trying to out flank them by not being an easy target not having cliche arguments. Not being an easily defined opponent and shocking them when I change up, like change up pitches in baseball, like subtle moves in martial arts.
