I'm finding Byron Katie's advise, the 4 questions, and turn-around helpful, for clearing away alot of ignorance.#1 is it true?#2 can you be absolutely sure that it is true?#3 How do you react to this thought?#4 How would you be if you dropped this? (without dropping it, which ammounts to repression, just considering who I would be without belief in this thought)Turn around, consider the opposite statement, or the judgement turned around on self.Because the mind can be wild with things that aren't even true in a manifest universe, and questioning thoughts, I realize how free of belief in thoughts I can be.Maybe that is the difference between Jnana, and repression of thoughts.Jnana, is knowing the thoughts are not true. And so there is nothing for the thoughts to stick to.That would be a commonality between all sages teachings, whatever the language they use.All these different "methods" per se, unveil the Bliss. As you've said, there are alot of words for the Self, Love, Truth, Kindness, Courage, Being-Consciousness-Bliss, Brahman,True-Good-Beautiful, God. But all those descriptions point to one thing, the real, natural state, when the thoughts are disbelieved in. When everything sought is realized ot be already possessed. You had said to question thoughts, that is what Byron Katie focuses on. Because at root of the thought,is the false, and little, petty, identity, the ego. She calls attention to alot of things, that seem in congruence with what you are saying. For instance, anger, is also a thought, and repression of anger is another thought, shame about anger is another thought. To overcome anger, questioning the cause of the anger, that threatening or evil, dubiousperson, who is really something I'm creating, imagining, fearful and angrythoughts that are sticking to me. When things start to clear away, alot of times it's realized that from the standpoint of Bliss, there can't be a problem, and no matter how real the problem seemed insofar as the illusory cause and effect, is not true.Because the problems are really spiritual problems, however external they seem. If I'm in Bliss, how can something bad happen, because even if I didn't have enough food, was being beaten up, people didn't like me,all the things worried about, I'd still be in Bliss, in sleep while awake. This is differentthen second guessing myself and actions, which ammount more to repression of thought. Inquirywould seem more to question the considerations about actions one way or another, or obsessionabout the past. Ultimately, it seems this is a much deeper peace, then a forced peace, of tryingto be peaceful externally, or repressing agitated states or thoughts. The body might fight in a war, hypothetically, defend someone else's lifefrom an attacker (visceral anger might even be experienced, correct?), or might be eating ice cream, or attending an anti-war protest. But the peace seemsto come from disbelieving the thoughts, until thoughts aren't considered something real. From that standpoint, there would be the Bliss of not believing agitating thoughts, the world and it's objects are already non-objective, because the objectivity was justbelief in thought. Byron Katie uses slightly different language, but on every level,it was clear that she too is a Jnani. Who am I? seems more appropriatewhen there is the peace to inquire into the identity, when the thoughts that are arising, are more pleasent thoughts, it is easier to inquire and look into whether there is a person,a subject, per se who was having the thoughts.Although the more there is that Blissful, non-objectivity, that seems much more close to an experience of the Self. Is the "Self" a weird term for it? Because it is I supposethe real Self, but is isn't something objective, but it conjures an objective concept.A bigger Self, an object. But this Self, is really the Blissful, unchanging, permenant awareness, that is in the absence of an objectivity-creating belief in thoughts. Once the thought has beenreally disbelieved in, I suppose that is when Realization "occurs", because once the snake has beenseen to be a rope, one now know it's a rope, one is not going to fool himself, maybe for fun,but the illusion has been vanquished, because now I know better. So because of this, the objectivityof believed thoughts never comes back. Which is probably why the Realized say that there wasn't anevent, and that Realization was always. Because since the life, with the problems, changes, developements, was just belief in thoughts, now that they are disbelieved in, the illusorypast can't be reconjured in a way that could ever be believed in again.
